Emergency Family Support for Vulnerable Families in Uganda

A family in crisis cannot wait. When a low-income mother delivers a newborn without adequate resources, when a household suddenly loses its primary earner, or when a family faces a health emergency with no financial safety net — the need is immediate. Ginnello's CBO's Emergency Family Support project exists to respond in those moments, connecting vulnerable families to the resources, services, and community networks that can help them survive and stabilise.

We work closely with communities to identify families who are quietly struggling — particularly mothers with newborns who face the compounded vulnerabilities of poverty, isolation, and postpartum need. Rather than offering one-size-fits-all aid, we assess each family's situation and connect them to the most appropriate support: from essential supplies and nutrition to health referrals, counseling, and longer-term social assistance. No family should face their worst moments alone.

How We Help

Four Ways We Support Families in Crisis

Rapid Response

When a family is identified as being in acute need, we act quickly. Our community networks allow us to mobilise support and resources without delay — because for a family in crisis, every day matters.

Essential Supplies

We provide or facilitate access to food, clothing, hygiene products, baby supplies, and other household essentials that vulnerable families — especially mothers with newborns — urgently need but cannot afford.

Health & Service Referrals

We connect families to health facilities, social welfare programmes, nutrition services, and other specialised organisations within our referral network — ensuring their needs are comprehensively met beyond what we can directly provide.

Emotional Support

A crisis does not only affect a family's material situation — it takes a profound emotional toll. We provide compassionate guidance and basic counseling to help parents, especially mothers, process stress and find renewed strength.

Low-income mothers with newborns face some of the most acute vulnerabilities in our communities. Ginnello's CBO identifies and supports these mothers with baby supplies, nutrition resources, health referrals, and emotional care during this critical period.

Our Difference

Why Ginnello's CBO Approach to Family Support Works

We Act Fast

Emergencies do not wait, and neither do we. Our community-embedded approach allows us to identify families in crisis and begin mobilising support rapidly — minimising the time a family spends without help.

Tailored to Each Family

We assess each family's specific situation before acting. No two crises are identical — so we tailor our response to ensure the support provided truly addresses the family's actual needs, rather than a generic assumption.

Dignity-Centred

We support families with full respect for their dignity and privacy. Families are treated as resilient individuals navigating difficult circumstances — not as passive recipients of charity — and their agency is honoured throughout.

Whole-Family Approach

We consider the needs of the entire household — parents, children, and dependants — not just the most visible member in crisis. A supported family is a stable foundation for every child within it.

Community Embedded

Because we are rooted in communities, we often identify families in need before a crisis becomes catastrophic. Our relationships with neighbours, local leaders, and community members give us early warning that enables earlier, more effective support.

Pathway to Stability

Emergency support is a bridge, not a destination. We pair immediate relief with referrals to longer-term social and economic support services — helping families move from crisis toward sustainable stability over time.
